Artémise Ploegaerts comes from Lille, France where she studied contemporary dance, improvisation, and ballet at the conservatoire. She moved to Paris to continue her dance training notably with Corinne Lanselle. Later on, she completed a B.A (Hons) Dance Theatre at Trinity Laban and started making her own work in London. In 2011, she received the Michelle Simone award for outstanding achievement in the field of choreography. 2nd Hand Dance invited her to her first residency in Dorking in 2011. The following year, Artémise began her Master of choreography at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Arnhem, to pursue her artistic research and interests while working as an independent artist and choreographer in the Netherlands. Her artistic and choreographic practice includes dance, performance, and video. It is while studying at ArtEZ that she started investigating her practice with video by herself and in collaboration with the visual artist Louis Hothothot. She has shown performances and video installations in theatres, art galleries and site-specific spaces such as Bonnie Bird Theatre London, Laban Centre, Dreamspace Gallery, Dance Base Edinburg, Dansmakers Amsterdam, De Lindenberg Nijmegen, Deventer Schouwburg, Van Abbe Museum, Eye Amsterdam, among others. She also works with different dance platforms, festivals, and residencies throughout Europe.
