Welcome Project - The foreigner's theatre

“When I was a child my mother used to tell me, that I am a citizen of the world. Of course I believed her, she was my mother. But the older I got, the more I understood that this is only my mother’s dream. Borders exist – for somebody more, for the luckiest less. Their lines and rules sometimes change, but they do exist.”

Intime Fremde is dedicated to a reflection over the ideas of border, identity, the concept of nation, country of origin, to the encounter/collision of different anatomies such as the physical ones as well as the cultural and emotional ones.
In the past years, the migration phenomenon connected to the figure of the “asylum seeker” has gained a huge dimension. Europe’s borders are now a dangerous place and the Mediterranean Sea resembles more and more a mass grave. The "old continent" got us used to travel low cost and feel at home in all the countries of the Union. Nevertheless the old continent is scared and closes its own borders.
Borders exist, hidden everywhere. If it is true that we’re all biologically similar, it is also true we are all culturally diverse, and with different rights.
On stage there are three women who live in Germany but come from different countries: Italy, Germany and Brazil. Alternating moments of closeness with moments of distance, they create intimacy or build barriers between them and the audience.

2017 Intime Fremde was also awarded with the Jury Prize of the Festival Crash Test. This is the motivation of the jury:

"For being able to touch the uncovered nerves of the social cohabitation in our dark present, for questioning the role of theatre today, the jury, not without an animated and passionate discussion, rewards the piece that more than any other is willing to intercept the language of a possible future: Intime Fremde by Welcome Project."

Intime Fremde was nominated by the Italian Magazine Krapp's Last Post among the best 10 pieces of 2017.
