Jahman Davine is an Australian born, Berlin based, theatre director, writer, scenographer and occasional performer. He is a graduate of the National Theatre Drama School and has also studied Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki methods with Zen Zen Zo, Australia’s leading physical theatre company. Jahman’s work walks a formal tightrope between chaos and order using philosophy and mythology to investigate themes of social ideology, fantasy and taboo. Counterpointing poetic text, visual art, spatial design, color, light and music to the performers’ body/ bodies, he creates theatrical compositions in which the total experience communicates something more than its individual parts. Jahman directed and developed the premier of ‘Holy Ship: The Stage Show’ (2012) at Red Bennie’s, Melbourne’s celebrated Cabaret Venue. In 2014, He was a Regiehostpitant (Directors Intern) with The Komische Oper for their production of Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten, directed by Spanish theatre provocateur Calixto Bieto. Later in 2014, he conceived, directed and designed the Theater Group Berlin ensemble’s debut project ‘Under The Gun’, presented at Tatwerk Berlin. In 2015, Jahman directed the short play ‘The Mother’ by Claire Monica Burgess, produced by Tiny Rhino Brooklyn as part of their ‘Ugly Rhino’ season at Prachwerk Berlin.
Jahman is currently developing projects in multiple disciplines with collaborators both in Australia and Germany.
