Peter Rose was born in New York City in 1955 and graduated from Columbia University in 1977.
From 1977 to 1981 Rose participated in The Paratheatrical Activities of The Polish Laboratory Theatre: “Meditations Aloud” led by Ludwik Flaszen, 8 Day Workshop with Cieslak in the United States and “Tree of People” 1978/9 and “Theatre of Sources” 1980 in Poland. From 1977-2006 Rose created the following Performances: The Circular Heavens, Over the Wall Stories, Berlin Zoo, Loyaltown, USA, Diamond Fever, test-traveler/polar star and Cleansing The Senses. Berlin Zoo was produced for television in 1990/1 and was awarded Honorary Mention by The American Film Institute in New Performance Genres.
From 1984-86 his solo performances Over the Wall Stories, Loyaltown, USA! and Berlin Zoo were presented throughout West Germany. Cleansing The Senses premiered at The Grotowski Institute in 2005 and was performed 13 times at Performance Space 122 in 2006. In 2011 Rose received The Shining Star Award as one of the pioneering founders of New York's Performing Space 122 in 1979.
In 2005/6 Rose founded in Berlin Practical Works, a project in which a small group of artists and colleagues are also involved. Peter Rose/Practical Works is committed to creating the conditions in which a human being can truly act, with one’s whole self. We develop the tools for creative and spiritual practice and this process is a life-long challenge to our humanity and capacity to grow. Since 2005 Practical Works has offered ongoing Performer Training for body and voice, Awakening Practice Workshops and Performances.
In 2009 Peter Rose/Practical Works curated “Awakening Practice”, celebrating of The Grotowski Year in Berlin with the support of The Grotowski Institute. In 2014 The grotowski Institute presented two performances of The Swinging Door with Annamaria Faraone and Peter Rose.
