On June 2, 1967, Benno Ohnesorg died from a gunshot to the head. Why did the policeman Karl-Heinz Kurras kill the young student? To what extent were the events of June 2 the starting point for the radicalization of the student movement? Did the Stasi have anything to do with Ohnesorg's death?
Two historians investigate the death of Benno Ohnesorg at the scene of the crime and in the streets around the Deutsche Oper. Scenes based on archival material such as trial records, lectures, interviews, and witness statements combine with the historians' search movements to form a joint city walk.
Directed by Simon Köslich, the Historikerlabor's live audio walk looks at a key moment in German post-war history from different perspectives. From the analysis and juxtaposition of the statements and motives for the action of those involved, a vivid picture of the embattled 1960s emerges.
Frederic Lenz on June 2: "There is something threatening for us in this historical moment of crisis, but also a promise. We want to break it down, uncover its elements, and invite the audience to use this material to reflect on our understanding of democracy today."

Biography

Historikerlabor e.V.
The Historikerlabor has existed since 2013 and is an interdisciplinary association of humanities and social scientists and artists. On the basis of contemporary historical research methods, historical content and actors - acting people - are made tangible on stage. The research for sources and actors in their life and work milieus becomes a montage of protocols, notes, letters, memories, and comments of the historians in the projects of the laboratory. The examination of history takes place before the eyes of the audience. Facts and contexts can be experienced sensually in the amalgam of historical analysis and artistic presentation.

Simon Köslich
Simon Köslich is a director, actor, and speaker. In "Girolamini - The Case of the Books" he brought his research on an Italian art forger to the stage at Lettrétage Berlin. With the choreographer Laura Witzleben he produced the dance piece "Wildfang" at the Theater im Delphi and is currently working with her on a project about dancers-couples. Together with Historikerlabor e.V., Mayako Kubo and Ilka Seifert, he realized a performative city walk in Siemensstadt and the concert performance "John Rabe - Endstation Siemensstadt" last year. In 2019, Simon initiated a spoken choir for the anniversary of Benno Ohnesorg's death. This project is now being continued together with the Historikerlabor.
