Without cultural production, we are lost.
Yet our work is becoming increasingly precarious.
At the same time, it is more necessary than ever.
Amid genocide, escalating wars, and growing pressure on freedom of expression, spaces for artistic production are becoming ever scarcer.
Thanks to basic funding, the minimum required to maintain the studio is secured until the end of 2027. However, this funding only partially covers the work of the people who built TATWERK and continue to work here. Over the years, the income from studio rentals allowed us not only to pay ourselves but also to invest financial resources in co-productions and guest performances. These revenues have steadily decreased, highlighting the need to develop a new economy.
Our usage fees (artists without funding: €70/day; artists with small funding up to €15,000: €120/day; artists with higher funding: €180/day) are calculated to cover our annual budget. Realistically, however, these numbers are no longer feasible.
Therefore, we are developing a new allocation system based on transparency, solidarity, and shared value creation, combining fairness for all with a fluid economy.
