The performance “To My Ancestors. Trans* Formations in Space and Time” tells stories of non-binary people in Europe before the Enlightenment. There will be a supporting program with two participatory workshops. For the new production, the project is moving to the community garden Lucys Garten on Hermannplatz, where the workshops will also take place.
Workshop 1: Trans* people have always existed - non-binary perspectives on European history
Were there only men and women in the past? In this workshop, we will search for trans people in the early history of Europe. We will consider how we can recognize non-binary people in the past. We will ask why it might not be so easy to find trans* people from the past. And we ask ourselves what trans* people today might have in common with trans* people from the past.
Workshop: Queer plants
Sexuality is often explained in terms of bees and flowers. But is it really that simple with sex in the realm of plants? If we take a closer look, we realize that the world of plants is more complex than just male and female. Plants are more queer than we as humans can ever dream of. This workshop shows that heterosexuality in the nature of plants is just one concept of many and answers the question of what this actually has to do with gardening.
