Out of place, a-topos, déplacée. A presence out of place, "always in the wrong place" in the words of Edward Said, which finds no space either at origin or at landing. This condition of  being a-topos according to Abdelmalek Sayad is one of the recurrent characteristics of the migratory experience, which configures a perception of self in the "double absence" between the place of origin and the place of landing. Barrani in Tunisian is the foreigner, literally 'the one from outside (el barra)', the one who undertook the journey to Europe. This research performance is dedicated to all of us, the diaspora generation, non-native European citizens. Nostalgia, exile, the mother tongue are some of the colors of a journey in a non-linear time, where presence is twofold and connected, memory a refuge and the body an archive of gestural rituals that makes you feel at home.

BARRANI is a performance by CORPS CITOYEN, supported by MiC and SIAE as part of the “Per Chi Crea” program. The 2025 tour is supported by Sardegna Teatro.

A man seen from behind stands on a dimly lit stage between two round percussion instruments on stands. He wears a sleeveless black outfit with a chain detail on the back, illuminated by bright lights at his feet. The scene is atmospheric and minimal.

Biography

Corps Citoyen الجسد المواطن is a collective platform, where shared and multidisciplinary projects are produced, but also individual works by the artists of the group in collaboration with other artists and professionals.  Corps Citoyen was founded by Anna Serlenga, Rabii Brahim, Saoussen Babba, Aymen Mejri, Francesca Cogni, Alessandro Rivera Magos, Lilia Ben Romdhane. The collective was founded in 2013 in Tunis, where it operates until 2018 between performance and research projects - Mouvma!Nous, qui avons encore 25 ans, 2014 - and participatory projects in complex territories - El Aers - The Wedding project (DreamCity 2017; Jaou Biennale), Cartographie du Désir (Manifesta 12 - 5x5x5 programme), #Commons - Gabes (Fondation Kamel Lazaar 2018). Since 2018, the collective has been based in Milan, where the team has expanded with the technical direction of Manuel D'Onofrio and the production care of Vittoria Lombardi.

In 2020 it emerges the urgency to begin a decolonial performative research (The Others لخررین ; The Political Body Workshop; The Others 2_остали; Barrani - provisional title). Since 2022 the collective has been associated with Base Milano for the three-year period 2022-2024. Since 2023 it has also been an associated artist to the European platform IN SITU. Parallel to artistic production, since 2020 Corps Citoyen has set up the curatorial project Milano Mediterranea
