“It felt amazing. It felt like I've been trying not to explode and then I exploded.”
— The Lost Daughter (Maggie Gyllenhaal, 2021, based on Elena Ferrante, 2007)
Where does rage come from? Where do we channel all this anger? Who can we be if we no longer have to suppress it? And where does it lead us if we follow it?
During their research, artists Nora Decker and Carla-Frieda Nettelnbreker explored the concept of rage within and beyond motherhood. They delved into the layers of an emotion that remains socially taboo and often leads to silence and feelings of helplessness. To counteract this supposed lack of expression, the artists explore an acoustic space using their voices, a loop station, and two microphones.
On March 15, Nora Decker and Carla-Frieda Nettelnbreker will share excerpts from this process with their guests at TATWERK. The centerpiece is a live improvisation, woven from the performers’ voices and texts into an archaic sound archive. The performance is framed by a participatory program that welcomes all interested guests at two different sessions.
Project funded by Berlin Senate for Culture and Social Cohesion, Work and Research Grant.
